In 2006, I signed up for my first Yoga class at my University because I was curious to find out what all of this "Yoga hype" was about. I came ready for a workout but it turned out to be taught by an unenthusiastic teacher whose style, (lack of) energy, and sequence were not a right fit for me.
I was willing to keep an open minded so a few years later, I signed up for a class at a local Yoga Studio - and wow, let me tell you, this was a completely different experience than what I had!
I was hooked.
My instructor was relatable, inspiring, and she had a passion for teaching. She got my heart race up, I liked grooving to her playlist, the studio was beautiful with its natural lights as well as cool night LED lightings; but most of all, I felt challenged, pushed outside of my comfort zones, whilst encouraged to listen to my body and to breathe.
Breathing. Breathing was a big game changer for this anxious and awkward worrywart.
Since I discovered the joy of mindful breathing, learning names of the yoga poses, meditation during Savasana, I feel the urge to discover all that I can about this life-changing field.
In 2012, after having a regular practice for several years, I signed up for the 200 Hours Yoga Teacher Training to deepen my knowledge of Yoga.
My goal back then was not to become a teacher, since I used to think of myself as shy and awkward.
I still do, but now I make a genuine effort to reach out and form connections with others because helping other people feel good brings me joy.
I love being able to make other people feel good. I love being a source of sunshine for someone who is going through a dark time. Whether they are stuck in their physical habits, they don't know where to start, or they just need to make workouts fun again, I have worked with a variety of these clients.
